Scene breakdown: a story split before it is drawn

A scene breakdown divides a script or story idea into numbered scenes, each described, before any image or video is generated. From 2 source pages, read 2026-09-25; no maker pays to be listed.

Katalist builds a scene-by-scene script breakdown that can serve as a storyboard foundation or a story outline. Storyboarder.ai turns a simple story idea into a structured scene breakdown before generating the storyboard.

The breakdown is the step where the story's structure can still be changed cheaply. Moving or cutting a scene is an edit to text, not a new generation.

Film production uses the same word for a sheet listing what each scene needs; the AI tools use it more loosely, for the list of scenes itself.

A breakdown that matches the number of episodes planned makes the rest of a series easier to organise.

Katalist's page also notes that its breakdown can stand in for a story outline, which it does not produce separately. Storyboarder.ai places the breakdown before the storyboard, so the story can be refined before any picture exists.

Set beside “Scene breakdown”, two passages from the guides SceneMixer publishes about its own pipeline:

SceneMixer turns a novel into a watchable short-drama series in one pipeline: upload the novel (Chinese or English) → AI extracts characters, scenes, and an episode-by-episode structure → generates consistent character and scene art → writes storyboard scripts → renders video segment by segment (16:9 by default, 9:16 in one setting) → composites full episodes.

Paste a scene or a short script and SceneMixer gives you a storyboard — numbered shots with framing and seconds — and then a moving version of each segment, which you can join into a rough cut of the scene.
